Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative Announces Dr. Victor Dzau, Global Healthcare Policy and Research Expert, to join Board of Directors

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (MARCH 28, 2023) – The Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative (DAC), the organization leading an unprecedented response to the Alzheimer’s pandemic, today announced the appointment of Dr. Victor Dzau, President of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine (NAM) to the DAC Board of Directors. Dr. Dzau’s leadership on international healthcare policy and innovative research increases DAC’s expertise in delivering an effective global healthcare strategy for action on Alzheimer’s. 

Dr. Victor Dzau’s longstanding history of leading on health, medicine, health policy, and biomedical science received international recognition for translational research and global healthcare delivery. His experience leading healthcare system innovation dovetails perfectly with DAC’s focus on scientific discovery, research, and care delivery to advance progress on Alzheimer’s solutions.

“The critical perspective brought by Dr. Victor Dzau will further enhance our efforts to diversify research, scale public health solutions, and accelerate healthcare system preparedness,” said George Vradenburg, Founding Chairman of the Alzheimer’s Collaborative. “The addition of Dr. Dzau bridges clinical experience with DAC’s collaborative approach to improve care pathways for patients at every level.”

Dr. Dzau is the former CEO of Duke University Health System and former professor and Chairman of Medicine at Harvard Medical School Brigham and Women’s Hospital. At Harvard, Dzau founded the Harvard Brigham and Women’s Hospital Division of Global Equity. He’s also held influential positions at Stanford University, the National Institute of Health, and the Duke-National University of Singapore. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Dzau has built extensive expertise in policy application and advises governments, corporations, and universities worldwide on global health policy and innovative research. His expertise spans organizational and institutional leadership, policy, and communications.

Together with DAC’s leadership, I’m hopeful we can make a significant impact on community health and healthy aging around the world.” 

Since joining the National Academies, Dr. Dzau has led important initiatives such as the Global Health Risk Framework for the Future, Vital Directions for Health and Healthcare, and Healthy Longevity Global Grand Challenge, all of which are meant to educate and prepare doctors,  policymakers, and key stakeholders about critical issues facing the healthcare system. 

Dr. Dzau received his Medical Doctorate from McGill University in 1972. He was an intern in medicine at Cornell University, a chief resident physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Boston, a fellow in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a clinical and postdoctoral research fellow in physiology at Harvard University.
